Medley Hall financial support

Medley Hall awards over $300,000 in bursaries each year to eligible students on the basis of financial need. On average, 1 in 3 students at Medley Hall receive some form of financial assistance from the College to help with residential fees. It is our aim to make a place at Medley Hall available to students who have been accepted into their course at the University of Melbourne and who would otherwise be unable to experience the benefits of living in a college community.

The fee-remission program comprises the following bursaries and scholarships:

The Griffin Fund

Eligibility: UoM students in financial need will be considered.  Study abroad and exchange students are not eligible to apply. Duration: 1 year (re-application required each year). Number available: Varies.

*Please note that applications for 2023 (including Semester 2) are now closed.

The Cybec Foundation, founded by Roger Riordan, has supported a growing number of Medley students since 2006. The foundation aims to encourage academic excellence, assist the less fortunate, care for the environment and support the Arts. The foundation’s donation of $1 million played a vital role in Medley Hall's recent renovations and building works.

The bursaries come with the expectation that those who benefit will reciprocate by taking on responsibilities within the College and the wider community. It is our hope and expectation that students who are helped in this way will then "pass it on" when they are able to do so in the future.

Eligibility: Students in financial need will be considered. * Students from universities other than the University of Melbourne are also eligible to apply. Study abroad and exchange students are not eligible to apply. Duration: 1 year (re-application required each year). Number available: Varies.

Robert and Gretta Wilkinson Scholarship is a fee-remission scholarship for domestic students enrolled in a course at the University of Melbourne who are, or will be resident at Medley Hall, who are in financial need, and from a rural background. No separate application is required for this scholarship.

Eligibility: Australian students from a rural background in financial need. Duration: 1 year (re-application required each year). Number available: up to 10 depending on the value.

We do consider international students for financial support in some circumstances. We recommend that international students explore the University of Melbourne scholarship opportunities in the first instance.

The Residential Cost Option covers 100% of college fees for eligible students. Residents who receive the Residential Cost Option can also apply for additional financial support for living expenses through our bursary program.

The Indigenous Accommodation Grant is for University of Melbourne students who are ineligible for ABSTUDY's Residential Cost Option and is $10,000 in fee-remission. Current students and 2023 applicants are eligible. This grant is managed by the scholarships team with support from Murrup Barak.

Supporting access to the residential college experience at Medley Hall.

If you are enrolling through the Access Melbourne program and have applied to stay at Medley Hall, a Hansen Access Residential College Scholarship can help you to access the residential college experience, by contributing to your accommodation costs for your undergraduate degree.

Living in a residential college provides you with a supportive academic network of friends and a safe, fully-catered place to live and learn, minutes from the University’s Parkville campus.

Scholars will be supported for the duration of their stay at Medley Hall (up to 3 years) with Residential College Fee Remission valued at $20,000 per annum.

Preference is given to students who were shortlisted for the Hansen Scholarship but were ultimately unsuccessful and have applied to reside at Medley Hall.

Two new scholarships will be awarded each year with the first Hansen Access Residential College Scholarships being awarded in 2024.

Who is eligible?
