Private rental market and sharehouses

It's easy to build a life around the University of Melbourne.

Surrounding our city campuses you will find a network of private accommodation providers, hostels and share houses. Whether you want the fully catered option or you want to lead a fully independent life, there are different options to suit your needs.

With a thriving arts and foodie scene, the inner city is a cluster of exciting communities connected by public transport and bike paths. You can spend time in the famous cobblestone lanes, at world-class theatre productions or at sporting events. There are trams you can catch to every corner of the city, and an extensive public transport network will take you to our suburban and regional towns.

Choosing the right suburb

Every Melbourne suburb has a different flavour, from the quirky bars and always open noodle shops of the CBD to the famous falafel houses of Coburg. So it's really just a matter of finding the place that's right for you.

Living close to our Parkville campus

For local students, the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus is a commuter campus. The majority of local students take advantage of our extensive public transport system and commute each day from the family home in the suburbs. Rural, interstate and international students tend to choose options closer to campus. This has resulted in a strong student culture developing around the northern edge of the city. Living close to our Parkville campus has its benefits - you can access a range of sporting facilities, study zones, outdoor spaces, cafes and more. Hang with your friends, catch up on study, relax and have fun.
