Meet Christina: Bachelor of Commerce student
Getting started in the Bachelor of Commerce
Meet Christina, a Bachelor of Commerce student who shares her advice on getting ready for uni.
Top tips to get started:
- Map out key dates
Map out all your assignment and exam dates before the semester begins. The UniMelb Semester Planner comes in very handy for this and helps you stay on top of deadlines.
- Study groups
Form study groups with your peers from tutorial classes, so you can discuss and revise the subject content together. Assistance for online studying with consultations and discussions boards from the University are also available.
- Tutorials are important
Don’t miss tutorials! And make sure to do your readings ahead of time. Procrastination comes at a price.
- Balanced lifestyle improves study habits
Try to exercise daily and eat healthy. Even short periods of exercise daily with a balanced diet help me with studying. MU Sport has a range of facilities and classes available for students.
- New study technique
Try the Pomodoro technique for studying. It is a time management method that helps break down your work into intervals and is separated by short breaks. This helps me to focus on one task at a time and allows breaks when needed.
- Make the most of the opportunities
Get involved in one or more clubs from over 200 clubs affiliated with the University of Melbourne Student Union (UMSU), ranging from cultural and academic, as well as political and special interests.
Christina believes that it is quite simple to action this advice, you just need to be creative!
