Meet Indy Wardhana: Bachelor of Commerce student

From Indonesia, Indy Wardhanais is a recipient of the Melbourne International Undergraduate Scholarship.  She is studying a Bachelor of Commerce.

Choosing a university can be an overwhelming task, but for Bachelor of Commerce student Indy Wardhana, her ambitions to make a positive change in the world made the choice easy.

“Coming from a country where poverty and inequality is still very much a major issue, I feel a moral obligation to use my privilege to help those at the edge of society”, she explains.

I believe studying at the University of Melbourne will provide me with the necessary resources, connections, tools, knowledge, and basically the foundation that I will need to help others.

Thanks to a University of Melbourne scholarship, Indy has been able to pursue these ambitions without worrying about finances.

“Receiving a scholarship has definitely reduced the financial burden on my parents and allowed me to enjoy Melbourne with more pocket money,” she says.

Of course, even with financial help, moving to another country to study can be challenging. But despite some bouts of homesickness, Indy is happy with her decision to study at Melbourne.

“I really love Melbourne so far,” she says.

“The friends I’ve made, and the overall university experience have been truly exciting for me.”

“I love the campus culture and how passionate, intelligent, yet approachable the staff are - it makes university less daunting.”
