Graduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound
Where will this take me?
The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound at The University of Melbourne is the first of three flexible postgraduate clinical ultrasound courses. These have been developed for practising medical professionals who wish to obtain further expertise in medical ultrasound for clinical practice. You can complete the Graduate Certificate course then progress into the Graduate Diploma. Graduates also have the opportunity to continue with a Master of Clinical Ultrasound.
The course has a focus on basic transthoracic echocardiography, an introduction to transoesophageal echocardiography and surface ultrasound uses, such as vascular access, nerve blocks and trauma ultrasound. Students can choose to study either the ICU module or the anaesthesia module.
Following completion of the course students are expected to:
- Have a diagnostic-level understanding for echocardiography including transoesophageal echocardiography.
- Have acquired additional knowledge within their discipline, and be familiar with methods of applying ultrasound related knowledge in their clinical practice; and
- Have a high consistency of knowledge between students within each craft group or discipline.
