Admission criteria
To be considered for entry into this course, you must have completed:
- an undergraduate degree with a major in finance or with a major sequence in finance that includes the following subjects:
o Financial Accounting (ACCT10002) or equivalent;
o Corporate Finance (FNCE20005) or equivalent;
o Investments (FNCE30001) or equivalent;
o Derivatives Securities (FNCE30007) or equivalent. - the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Records Examination (GRE), unless you have completed an undergraduate degree in Australia or New Zealand or met one of the approved conditions for GMAT or GRE exemption.
If you have satisfied all the requirements for a Master of Finance offer, except for the Derivative Securities subject, you may be made an offer conditional upon completing an online intensive version of this subject prior to commencement of the course. Learn more about bridging subjects.
If you do not have a prior degree majoring in finance you are excluded from entry to this degree. Instead, you are encouraged to consider the Master of Management (Finance).

About selection
When assessing applications, the Selection Committee will consider your previous studies and academic performance.
The Selection Committee may request additional information to clarify any aspect of an application, according to the University’s Academic Board rules regarding selection instruments.
Meeting the published entry requirements for this course does not guarantee selection.
Additional information
If you discontinue from the Master of Finance but have successfully completed 100 points of this course including completion of the four compulsory subjects, you may be eligible to receive the Graduate Diploma in Finance as an exit award.
Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM)
We encourage domestic students to explore eligibility for Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM). GAM offers an opportunity for admission to this course even if your tertiary marks are below the standard entry requirements. GAM applicants may also be considered for financial bursaries and Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) where available.
GAM categories include coming from a rural area, being an Indigenous Australian, experiencing financial hardship or personal difficulties, having refugee status, or living with a disability or medical condition. In assessing applications, we look to balance opportunity and your capacity to succeed.
