The experience

Studying with MBS: Whether from home or later on campus, we’ve got you covered

Until it is safe to return to campus, our students are learning at home through our virtual campus and using platforms like our learning management system Canvas and Zoom for lectures and tutorials with breakout rooms to encourage interaction and discussion.

Our Virtual Campus Community, including all of our University Services for students, is fully up and running. We are providing many ways to stay positive and connected online including workouts with MU Sport, course planning appointments, ways to enhance your academic skills and appointments for counselling and wellbeing.

At MBS we offer a comprehensive program to support your learning, develop your skills and enrich your degree. We encourage you to be involved both on and off campus and to make the most of your time outside the classroom.

Injecting industry into your experience

Consulting Subjects: MBS offers the Business Practicum and Global Business Practicum subjects, which sees groups of students undertake a real business consulting project over 10 days for an organisation within Australia or overseas. In this video, you will find out what being an in-company consultant at CUB (AB InBev) was like for Maria Cruz (MIB, 2018).  You will hear more about the project and what her host and mentor, Isaac Lowrie, Strategy Director (APAC South), thought about the team's contributions during their time in the office.

Internships: Our internship subject offers you the opportunity to complete a placement in an area related to your studies, whilst earning credit towards your Master’s degree. It is also an opportunity for you to apply business knowledge in an industry setting with the support of an industry and academic mentor. You can also complete your internship over the Summer or Winter semester.

Careers Skills Development Program: Our Student Experience and Experiential Learning team have developed a business specific program to prepare you for your career which includes our Career Mentoring Program and MBS Skills Workshops which aim to develop your employability skills – those non-technical skills and knowledge that you need to participate effectively in the workplace, such as networking or a great CV.

Case competitions and entrepreneurship: Every year we run our very popular MBS Case Competition, this is a great opportunity to put theory into practice by delivering a solution to a real-life business problem in a tight time frame or if pitching a winning business is more your style, you can take part in our annual UniMelb StartUp Pitch Competition for a chance to win some amazing prizes and receive feedback that could help turn your idea into reality!

Student clubs: MBS students are encouraged to take part in a range of Faculty and University clubs, including the MBS Student Association. All Faculty clubs offer opportunities for professional development for their members and offer leadership and project management opportunities. Many also give back to the community such as Melbourne Microfinance Initiative and Global Consulting Group, which use their business skills to offer pro-bono consulting for charities and NFPs in Australia and overseas.
