Student experience

Overview

Access the broadest array of advanced coursework

We are a key partner in the Victorian Institute of Earth and Planetary Sciences (VIEPS) – a cooperative educational and research initiative that enables our students to take Earth sciences or geoscience subjects at different participating institutions.

Because of this collaboration, you'll have access to the best academic expertise from across the region, supported by a strong commitment from industry and government partners.

Currently VIEPS includes Monash University, La Trobe University, Federation University and the University of Tasmania.

Join our research community

In the School of Earth Sciences, we are proud of our diverse research activities, which are well supported by equipment and technology.

From the lab to the field, from seismology to petrology, from palaeoclimatology to atmospheric chemistry, we are making many and varied contributions to the Earth sciences field. So can you.

Career connections

There are many events that will connect you with industry and employers throughout the year. You’ll also have the opportunity to network with and learn from professionals in your field, and to join the STEM Industry Mentoring Program to develop your communication skills and employability.

Volunteering

While you’re studying with us, why not take advantage of the many opportunities available for you to get involved with volunteering to extend your learning opportunities, connect with communities, and enhance your employability. One opportunity for volunteering is through the Science Student Ambassadors program.

Study abroad

To add a global experience to your degree, consider taking on a research project with overseas field work. The optional industry internship subject can also be completed overseas.
