Student profile: Cassandra Hadson – General Manager, Regional Sport Victoria
Cassandra Hadson majored in sociology and gender studies during her undergraduate studies, but after some time in the workforce decided she wanted to supplement her theoretical knowledge with practical solutions to understand how best to address contemporary societal issues.
Since completing the Master of Social Policy, Cassandra has worked in diverse policy settings, including in the Multicultural Affairs and Social Cohesion Division of the Department of Premier and Cabinet (Victoria), and as Policy Adviser for leader of the Australian Greens Senator Richard Di Natale. Recently, she took up a position as General Manager of Regional Sport Victoria.
“During my day to day work, I often refer back to some of the first principles I learned while undertaking my Master of Social Policy,” Cassandra says. “Be it the policy development cycle or principles of strategic communication, it is incredibly helpful to refer to your notes, providing you with an element of clarity, particularly when commencing a new project.”
“Having a graduate degree not only opens doors in your career development, but provides you with the confidence to knock on those doors in the first instance. For me that benefit has been immeasurable, providing me with opportunities to work in state government, federal politics and executive roles in not-for-profits.”
