How to apply

Overview

It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete the form using the online application system. You can save your work in progress and complete the application at a later date.

In order to demonstrate that you meet the entry requirements, several items are required for submission. Please read the submission requirements carefully to ensure you submit all necessary elements.

To complete your application you will require:

  • Course code: SC-IMUSTCH
  • Evidence of meeting the English Language Requirements as determined by the University
  • A two-page CV summary that documents a minimum of two years relevant work experience
  • *A letter of reference confirming your level of experience as a studio music teacher is required. The reference can be provided by a music education employer, or a music education colleague who is familiar with your work. The letter of reference should include the following information:
    1. The referee’s name, phone number and professional position;
    2. How long and in what capacity they have known you;
    3. The referee’s description of your current level of experience and skills as a studio music teacher.
  • Music skills equivalent to AMEB Practical Grade 8, evidenced by at least one of the following:
    • Grade 8 Practical certificate through AMEB or an equivalent private provider
    • Bachelor of Music
    • Diploma of Music
    • Statement in your CV describing your music skill experience and level
  • Level of music theory knowledge evidenced by:
    • Grade 5 theory certificate through AMEB or an equivalent private provider
    • Bachelor of Music
    • Diploma of Music
    • Statement in your CV describing your music skill experience and level
  • Submission of a video recording demonstrating your music performance skills, including:
    • 3 pieces played on your primary instrument representing your highest level of skill (no more than 15 minutes of music is required in total)
    • Recordings must be no more than 6 months old at the time of submission, and do not have to be professionally produced. Using a phone or video camera to record is acceptable.
    • Videos can be submitted by providing a link to a shared file or streaming service in a word document.
  • Transcripts for all courses attempted or completed including an explanation of the grading system used. Transcripts for previous studies undertaken at the University of Melbourne are not required.
  • Digital files of these documents. Limit of 6MB per document. Supported file types: TXT, DOC, DOCX, PDF, JPG, JPEG, XLS, XLSX, TIFF.
