What will you learn
Understand crucial underpinning theory and approaches
You will gain an advanced knowledge of critical disability theory and how educational theory and research inform inclusive music education pedagogy. You will understand how neurodevelopmental conditions or learning differences impact music skills training – and how you can tailor your teaching approach accordingly.
Design inclusive learning plans and put your knowledge into practice
You will assess, design and evaluate music education programs for a diverse range of music learners. In interactive sessions, you will put your lesson plans into practice and gain crucial feedback on how to adapt your teaching style to ensure all learners have equal access to quality music education.
Course structure
To gain the Specialist Certificate in Inclusive Music Teaching, you must complete two core subjects, comprised of a total 25 points:
- Theory of Inclusive Music Teaching (12.5 points)
- Methods for Inclusive Music Teaching (12.5 points).
Workload
Both subjects will be delivered via a combination of online interactive sessions, wholly online material, and face-to-face seminars, amounting to 32 hours of contact time per subject. You will need to dedicate additional time to assignments, reading and preparation.
