Application Requirements

Overview

For entry into the specialisation, all applicants must meet the standard eligibility for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Degree with Honours), in addition to the requirements below.

Proposal and Folio

SUPPLEMENTARY APPLICATION

Upload an Honours proposal via the supplementary application form

Please upload a single document detailing the following:

  • Summarise your experience (to date) in your field (500 words)
  • Summarise your aims and proposed practical and/or creative project (500 words)
  • Proposal for your written research paper (500 words)

FOLIO REQUIREMENTS

Optionally, you may also upload a folio of pieces related to your proposed field of study or research. Your folio can include items showing your technical as well as creative abilities. Please clearly label each item and include the year of creation. If your item of work is the result of collaboration, please explain your specific role.

Folio pieces may include:

  • Designs, photos, drawings, images, illustrations, artwork etc. in JPEG or PDF format
  • Video (15 mins max) of excerpts from your work
  • If your video file exceeds 250MB, you must upload it to YouTube or Vimeo and submit the URL link
  • Do not password protect your videos

Interview

Interview Requirements

Shortlisted applicants are required to attend an interview as the final component of the application process. During the interview, panel members will assess your suitability for Honours, and you will be asked to discuss your proposal in further detail. The interview will run for approximately 30 minutes.

APPLICATION FEES

Applicants will be charged a non-refundable application fee payable via the supplementary application.

Please note that some domestic applicants may be eligible for a waiver of the supplementary application fee, if you are a Health Care Card holder or have special circumstances.

For persons who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, the supplementary application fee will be waived. Please contact the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development for assistance.

If you believe you are eligible for a waiver of the supplementary application fee, please email fineartsmusic-admissions@unimelb.edu.au prior to submitting your supplementary application form, and include a scanned copy of the relevant documentation as evidence of your eligibility.
