Specialisation structure

Overview

You will gain an advanced theoretical understanding of current research, debates, policies and practices in arts education from multidisciplinary and global perspectives. And, you will learn to apply educational theories and evidence-based research to inform policy and improve professional practice.

The Arts Education specialisation allows you to specifically focus on one of the following:

  • Music
  • Visual arts
  • Drama.

Study Structure

The Master of Education has been designed around the lives of working professionals. The delivery mode of our course is face-to-face classes on the Parkville campus, running evenings and weekends. Entry points to the course are in both semester 1 and 2, designed to suit most schedules. The Master of Education may be undertaken through either:

  • Full-time study, comprising four semesters over two years, or
  • Part-time study (domestic students only), comprising up to eight semesters over four years.

Dr Kate Coleman

"I am a visual artist and an arts-based educational researcher. I have been involved in the visual arts community since a very young age and worked in education across a range of sectors in Australia and America. When I finished high school I went straight to art school at University of New South Wales and graduated with a B. Art Education in 1994. Since then I have worked in a range of digital spaces for many years promoting the uptake of digital pedagogies and practices through ePortfolios and Open badges."
