What you will learn

Gain contemporary skills and knowledge.

Please note: There will be no intakes for this course in 2022.

Good design can improve the way we live and be a powerful vessel for telling evocative stories.

Based at the intersection of performance and design histories, theory and practice, this course explores how individuals and objects work within collaborative production and design projects.

It is ideal for anyone interested in developing compelling performance-based works, whether you’re enhancing existing skills or coming to it for the first time. If you enjoy collaborating in creative teams and sharing ideas in industry-facing settings, this course is for you.

As well as traditional theatre settings, design is increasingly important in workplaces and communities. Presentations and activations designed with nuanced visual and audio inputs achieve greater reach and engagement, and are thus an essential tool for advocacy and influencing change.

Creative Production and Design: Collaboration can also be complemented with the other short courses in our Creative Production and Design suite, which is part of Creative Arts Studios. See course details for more information.

Learn to collaborate across disciplines

Work with those from disciplines across the Creative Arts Studios to build your capacity to work with people in a range of creative disciplines. You'll learn to manage multiple viewpoints while moderating your own, and work in a range of roles to develop your understanding of the relationships and collaborative frameworks essential to bringing successful performance projects to fruition.

Develop a collaborative creative project

Drawing on your own personal practice and new knowledge, develop a collaborative project (performance, installation, exhibition) on a theme defined by your cohort and guided by tutors.

Gain insight into working in a small company

Reflecting current industry practices, you will act in multiple roles – including producer, designer and crew. You'll learn about the roles and production processes unique to working in a small company, and gain an overview of aesthetic and design principles, roles and responsibilities, for production.
