Customised Employment and the process of Discovery are evidence-based approaches supporting people with a disability to find fulfilling work. It is an individualised approach consistent with the requirements of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Building on the introduction, this course is ideal for experienced disability support workers seeking a deeper understanding of Customised Employment and Discovery, and the advanced skills to both implement and lead staff to utilise this evidence-based approach with fidelity.
Taught by experts from the University of Melbourne and the Centre for Disability Employment Research and Practice, this program is the only offering of its kind in Australia.
This is the second course in the Customised Employment Support suite. You must complete Customised Employment Part 1 – The Core Elements before taking Advanced Skills.
Gain a deeper understanding of Customised Employment and Discovery
Further explore the practices of Customised Employment and Discovery, developed for the Australian disability sector. Gain a detailed understanding of how individualised activities can support people with disability to secure employment reflecting their ideal employment conditions, skills and career aspirations, and the conditions required to successfully lead and deliver Customised Employment practices.
Learn job development strategies and how to engage with employers
With a focus on implementation, you'll explore topics including how to engage with employers and job development strategies, job matching, job analysis and systemic instruction, job carving, and the role of family and networks in the employment cycle.
Implement and lead staff to use Customised Employment
By the end of this program, you'll have advanced practical and leadership skills needed to implement these methodologies. You'll be able to ensure staff utilise them with fidelity to practice and in a consistent manner to ensure compliance with NDIS standards.
