If you'd prefer to find accommodation after you arrive in Melbourne, temporary accommodation may suit you while you search for more permanent accommodation.

It's important you organise this in advance, as places can book out quickly. Most inner-city hotels will include a surcharge for special event times, such as before the start of the semester, the Australian Grand Prix weekend, the Australian Open Tennis event, the cricket and AFL Football season.

Off-campus temporary accommodation

It is your responsibility to make sure your private accommodation suits your needs. Any rental agreement or arrangement you enter into is strictly between you and the private accommodation provider. Each provider will have their own application process. You'll need to contact them to find out how to apply.

Also ensure you know your tenancy rights before signing a rental agreement.
