Maya Valente

On top of the normal stresses of Year 12, Maya Valente felt the strain of her father living away from home for work: “We would only see him on weekends, so that was tough. I worried a bit about that.” Maya, from Mount Beauty in northern-eastern Victoria, applied through Access Melbourne for special consideration for living in a rural area and for difficult circumstances. She secured a place in the Bachelor of Science despite falling just short of achieving the ATAR for the course. “For me it was really important because I think with my ATAR I wouldn’t have gotten in first round without Access Melbourne.”
