Meet Janice: studying online from Macau

Janice has been studying online from Macau this past year, but that hasn’t slowed her down.

Currently studying: Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting and Finance.

UniMelb’s reputation for teaching and research, global rankings and diverse student cohort appealed to Janice. In high school, she had been studying commerce for a few years, so she already knew she wanted to focus on business subjects at Melbourne.

Through professional development workshops and webinars, Janice has had help with setting up her career plan; while Stop 1 has been a lifeline in setting up a study plan that suits her circumstances. Even though she’s had to adapt to studying online, Janice has still had the opportunity to implement what she’s been learning in the virtual classroom into the workplace, with an internship at an accounting firm in Macau.

Her advice for you? Choose subjects and majors that you enjoy so that you can make the most of your time at university. Her favourite subject ended up being Foundation of Computing, a breadth subject focused on data analysis and programming. What she learned helped her to better understand quantitative subjects in her majors.
