Orientation Carnival Day

Welcome to Melbourne

we can’t wait to meet you

Now that you’ve arrived in Melbourne, it’s time to connect with our incredible community of students and staff.

Making new friends is the best way to settle in and start making the most of your time in Melbourne, but it can be nerve-racking meeting new people.

Luckily, our campuses are full of thousands of new students just like you looking to connect. Here are some helpful tips on how you can meet them.

At the University of Melbourne there are lots of ways to meet people and connect with supportive networks.

Join a student club or society

One easy way to make new friends is to join a university club or society. There are over 200 student clubs at the University of Melbourne, covering spiritual, cultural, musical, political and sporting interests.

Go to free campus events

The University of Melbourne’s calendar is full of fun events all year round. From orientation activities to free public lectures and even farmer’s markets, there’s always something to do and opportunities to meet new people.

Sign up for a mentor

Another great way to connect with your peers is to sign up to the UMSU Mentoring Network. Through the network, you will be matched with a trained student mentor ready to help you make a smooth transition into university life. The network also runs fun events throughout the year when you can meet other new students looking to connect with peers.
