Hello! My name is Halina and I am a KLD alumni from the graduating class of 2013.
My time in the program allowed me to gain a valuable insight into the University of Melbourne and smoothed the transition from high school to university brilliantly for me. I couldn’t wait to start my science degree here in 2014 and Melbourne Uni has proven to be an inspirational institution to study this discipline in. My exposure to cutting edge research in my undergraduate years was pivotal in leading me onto my future career.
I majored in Immunology and Microbiology, which led to a placement in an infectious diseases laboratory at the Burnet Institute (as part of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities program run by Biomedicine Victoria). With this experience, and a growing passion for science and discovery, I completed an honours year at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in 2017, and that’s where I am now, doing a PhD focusing on malaria immunology.
Early participation in university life through KLD encouraged me to embrace as many opportunities as I could along my learning pathway.
