I graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a BFA in Production at the end of 2017.
At the start of Year 12, I knew I didn't immediately want to go on to further study. I wasn't sure where to go, because I originally wanted to study Veterinary Medicine at Unimelb.
I'd been stage managing theatre at school since Year 8, but it wasn't until after attending an info night at VCA with friends that I realised I could pursue it as a career. I come from a farming community in West Gippsland so I'm doing something vastly different from what I expected growing up. After a couple of gap years, I applied to VCA in 2014 and chose to specialise in Stage Management.
While at VCA I worked with the schools of Theatre, Dance and Music, and in second year had the opportunity to work as the Back of House Caller on the Victorian State Schools Spectacular (VSSS) as a student placement.
In 2017, I interned at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and again with VSSS as a Production Coordinator and Floor Manager. I have been freelancing this year and have worked again with MICF, and VSSS in Show Control as Back of House Caller and with a whole bunch of excellent independent theatre companies in Melbourne. I've also toured to Canberra and Brisbane with two different companies, and I work with current students at VCA as Technical Support.
