Applications open Monday 2 September 2019
If you’d like to connect with the University of Melbourne and receive a reminder about when KLD applications open in 2019, you can sign up here:
How to apply
You can apply for the Kwong Lee Dow Young program when you're in Year 10. If you're a teacher, you're also able to nominate a high-achieving student for the program.
If you're a Year 10 student
- Get your school's endorsement: this is required in your application. Schools can endorse a maximum of five applicants so make sure you speak to your teachers about this early.
- Prepare and have the right information for your application, view our sample application. Take some time to think about the questions and get a teacher or parent to check over what you've written before you submit it. It’s a great idea to write your responses out in Word before you input them into the portal.
- Apply online before the cut-off date of mid-October. We will ask you to tell us about yourself (i.e. your role models, goals, biggest challenge you have faced so far) and any extra-curricular activities you are involved in.
- Applications open Monday 2 September 2019
To find out how your application will be assessed, see How you're selected
If you're a teacher and want to nominate a student
The selection panel will consider the student's eligibility, endorsements from school, academic results within the top five per cent of your year level, and leadership potential.
In your application you'll need to demonstrate evidence of leadership, active citizenship and community involvement, such as participation in school activities, community work and cultural, environmental or sporting activities.
