Through our events and activities you can develop your leadership skills, be academically enriched, and make connections with university academics, scholars and other high-achieving students before you start your undergraduate degree. The events and activities run throughout the year. The events and activities we offer as part of the program include:

A welcome event, giving you the chance to learn more about being a Young Scholar, make new friends and get to know the University of Melbourne’s beautiful Parkville campus.

Leadership skills events designed to build your leadership, problem-solving, and presentation skills.

VCE revision lectures, helping you consolidate your learning prior to your VCE exams. They’re facilitated by leading teachers and past assessors, and will give you a boost heading into exams.

Personal development workshops that explore your career options, while developing your skills in leadership, decision making and team building.

Overnight adventures on campus staying overnight at one of the University’s residential colleges! You’ll meet lots of new people and have a genuine university experience – it’s a great taste of life as a university college resident.

Open day lounge, where you can meet staff, current students and other young scholars.

Celebration evening with your parents or guardians, your fellow Young Scholars and University staff to celebrate the end of Year 12 and to commemorate your involvement in the program.

Young Scholars will be notified via email three to four weeks ahead of each event listed below and reminders will be posted on the private KLD Facebook page.

  • First week – KLD Year 11 Event
  • Second week – KLD Year 12 Event
Victorian Term 2 School Holidays
  • First week - Unit 3 VCE Revision Lectures (For all KLD Year 11 & 12 students studying a Unit 3 subject)
  • Second week - Year 11 & Year 12 Events
  • Applications open for new KLD cohort (students in Year 10)
  • Open Day Activity
Victorian Term 3 School Holidays
  • First week - Unit 4 Revision Lectures (For all KLD Year 11 & 12 students studying a Unit 4 subject)
  • Second week - Year 12 one to one course consultations (phone/in-person as appropriate)
  • Early December - Welcome Event for Year 10 students entering the program
  • Mid - December - Celebration Event for Year 12s completing the program
