Melbourne Commencement Ceremony (MCC)

A core feature of the Melbourne Orientation, the commencement ceremonies celebrate the start of your studies and officially welcome you into the University community. University leaders, academics and first-year peers within your faculty all feature as part of the ceremonies, making them a special, informative and unmissable event.

Melbourne Peer Mentor Program

Be matched with a later-year student from your faculty, as well as a group of your first-year peers, in an instant network of friendly faces to touch base with. Benefit from an insider’s experience, ask for advice and guidance in navigating uni life and make friends with other students in your degree. Then, develop your leadership and interpersonal skills becoming a peer mentor yourself.

Academic Advice

As part of your Melbourne student experience, in your first year you’ll be matched with an academic adviser, such as a lecturer or a professor. Your adviser will support you to navigate your time at the University and take an active interest in your progress, success and challenges.

Discovery Experiences

Your first year Discovery subjects and modules will help you build a strong sense of connection with your cohort; understand more about the current ‘big ideas’ and real-world problems within your discipline; and provide you with the skills and knowledge you’ll need to make the most of your studies at Melbourne.

Wellbeing @ Melbourne

Caring for yourself is an important part of your study journey. Initiatives such as the Melbourne Peer Mentoring program, Academic Advising, Counselling and Psychological Services and the Health Promotion Program are designed to support you from day one.
