The Graduate Certificate in Physiotherapy (Paediatrics) at University of Melbourne is offered to Physiotherapists who wish to enhance their knowledge and clinical management skills as a means of improving professional practice in paediatrics.

This course covers contemporary theoretical knowledge and current advances in paediatric physiotherapy, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice. Through this course, students will refine existing clinical reasoning skills in the physiotherapy management of paediatric conditions. The Graduate Certificate in Physiotherapy (Paediatrics) is taught by internationally recognised clinician researchers and experts in the field of paediatrics.

On completion of the course graduates should be able to demonstrate:

• Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology applied to a specialist physiotherapy area
• An advanced understanding of the recent knowledge base in a specialist physiotherapy area
• Advanced clinical skills and techniques applicable to a specialist physiotherapy area
• An ability to promote evidence-based practice in a specialist physiotherapy area

Course description

The Graduate Certificate in Physiotherapy (Paediatrics) involves one core subject (PHTY90040 Physiotherapy Professional Portfolio) and two specialist subjects (PHTY90013 Paediatric Physiotherapy Theory and PHTY90030 Clinical Paediatric Physiotherapy). Students will be able to participate in Paediatric Physiotherapy Theory either face-to-face in Melbourne or online. Students participating in Clinical Paediatric Physiotherapy will have the opportunity to attend clinical placements in Melbourne, or complete placements closer to home if unable to travel to Melbourne.
