The introduction of echocardiography has made a dramatic impact on patient management in the peri-operative, critical care, emergency medicine, surgery and internal medicine environments.

The University of Melbourne has developed a suite of postgraduate clinical ultrasound courses that are offered in distance mode to practicing medical professionals who wish to obtain further expertise in medical ultrasound for clinical practice.

The suite of programs are completed in a three stage process, starting with the Graduate Certificate of Clinical Ultrasound course. The Certificate course is designed to cater to different craft groups and in subject two students are able to choose to study either an ICU module or anaesthesia module.
