Dr Zhen Shi
Dr. Zhen Shi is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the University of Melbourne and Program Director of the Master of Business and the Graduate Certificate in Business. After completing her PhD in Finance at Tilburg University, she has been teaching at the University of Melbourne across undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive programs. Her teaching focuses on corporate finance, asset pricing, and financial institutions, with an emphasis on connecting theory to practice. She has led the integration of industry-standard platforms such as LSEG Workspace into the curriculum, supporting large cohorts of students in developing empirical analytical skills. Her work has been recognised with multiple teaching awards, including the University of Melbourne’s Edward Brown Award for Teaching Excellence (2023), the University of Melbourne Award for Excellence in Building and Strengthening Student Diversity (2025), and the Education Excellence Prize for Best Innovative Teaching Practice awarded by the Institute of Global Finance at UNSW Business School (2024). She has also received Faculty-level Dean’s Excellence Awards in 2021 and 2022.
Professor Michal Carrington
Michal Carrington is the Associate Dean Research for the Faculty of Business & Economics and an Associate Professor of Marketing. Michal’s teaching and research explores marketing and consumer ethics, consumer wellbeing, how the strategic integration of AI in organisations can create value, and omnichannel retail. Michal has worked extensively with and in organisations such as Unilever and has contributed to policy development regarding consumer responses to modern slavery. Michal’s research is widely published in top-tier international marketing and management journals, and she is a section editor at the Journal of Business Ethics. Michal holds a BEng (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Marketing from the University of Melbourne.
Dr Belinda Allen
Belinda Allen (PhD in Organisational Behaviour) is a lecturer of Management in the Department of Management and Marketing. Having started her professional life as a psychologist, Belinda has always been passionate about understanding what makes people tick. She is particularly interested in understanding the working lives and careers of individuals and collaborating with individuals to make work a more satisfying and productive experience. Since earning her degree in psychology Belinda has gone on to also earn degrees in human resource management and organisational behaviour. In addition to the University of Melbourne, Belinda has also worked at Queensland University of Technology, Monash University, and the University of Western Australia. Belinda’s expertise covers leadership, stress management, teams, and high-performance work practices.
Dr Jooyeon Son
Dr Jooyeon Son is a Senior Lecturer in the Human Resource Management area in the Department of Management and Marketing at the University of Melbourne. She received her PhD in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the School of Labor and Employment Relations at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Before joining the Department of Management and Marketing, she was an Assistant Professor in Business School at the Renmin University of China. She conducts research in the areas of gender, leadership, international human resource management, talent management, and employee well-being. Her work has appeared in multiple scholarly journals including Academy of Management Journal, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Research Methods, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and International Journal of Human Resource Management. Her teaching interests include Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior, Leadership, Diversity, and Research Methods.
Dr Bec Rees
Bec Rees is a Lecturer of Management in the Department of Management and Marketing. She has more than 20 years of industry experience, having worked for the market leaders in the movie, gaming, FMCG, liquor, grocery, confectionery, market research and academic industries. She has a solid understanding of the strategic, analytic and logistic processes behind both supplier, retailer, and agency perspectives. Over the last 10 years, Bec has been juggling several hats: managing her own business analytics consultancy company; career coaching; completing a PhD part-time; and lecturing across several leading Universities across Australia. Bec has most recently taught the following subjects at the University of Melbourne: Organisational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, The Future of Work, Business & Marketing Ethics, Principles of Marketing, Business Negotiations, Political Psychology, Business Judgement, Management Consulting, and Strategic Management.
