Languages education at Melbourne

Life at Melbourne

The Faculty of Education building is located on the city side of the University’s Parkville campus – just a short walk from the city centre, the famous Queen Victoria Market, and a host of cafes, restaurants, shops, theatres, galleries and bars. While you’re studying in Melbourne, you'll be immersed in a supportive environment for all students and have access to a range of enrichment activities, including a student mentoring program, wellbeing services and academic skills support.
Indigenous students
The university has a student-led representative body – the Indigenous Graduate Student Association (IGSA) – who look to support graduate coursework and research students, enable collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and staff and encourage potential future Indigenous graduate students.
Meet our Master of TESOL student: Linnan (Dorothy) Zhang
After studying a bachelors in English, Linnan began working as an English language teacher in China. Wanting to further her knowledge and experience, international student Linnan enrolled in the Master of TESOL, moving from Nanjing to Melbourne. Sharing her experience of studying with the Faculty of Education, she says, "The course has been great. I now have a collection of very practical class activities and ways of organising the class. The cohort was a good size and we all get a chance to ask lots of questions – the lecturers are very intelligent and understanding. I’ve enjoyed studying in Australia – I hadn’t been here before but the people have been very friendly. I feel very lucky to have had this experience, and I have gained much more than just knowledge – I have learned new and different ways of thinking.”
