Expert instruction
This course is developed by the Department of Critical Care – the hub for world-leading critical care research, learning, teaching, and engagement across the 20+ University-affiliated hospitals and beyond. You will learn from renowned experts like Professor George Braitberg AM OStJ, Emergency physician and Director of Emergency Medicine Research at Austin Health, and Associate Professor Jonathan Knott, Emergency physician and Curriculum Lead in the Department of Critical Care.
Flexible and interactive learning
The online learning environment has been carefully devised to facilitate an interactive and flexible student experience. You'll have access to high-quality online education tools, including webinars, podcasts, and moderated discussion forums, allowing you to engage closely with fellow online students and share your knowledge.
Face-to-face workshops
Led by internationally renowned experts, two, two-day face-to-face workshops (4 days in total) will provide you with the opportunity to apply integrated knowledge to solving problems in various simulated disaster situations, including active shooter mass casualty simulations, drill exercises, and hazardous materials training. It is highly recommended students attend campus for these workshops, but they may attend virtually.

Dr Michelle Thornhill is an emergency physician, currently upskilling with the Graduate Certificate in Disaster and Terror Medicine to respond to crisis scenarios, inside and outside the hospital environment.
"I work in Emergency Medicine and being able to manage the department in the event of a disaster is integral to this. This course offered me the opportunity to deepen my knowledge and understanding of the management of disasters both in and pre-hospital."
