Proposal and Portfolio
Entry to the Dance major is based on a written proposal, portfolio, and an interview for shortlisted applicants only. Applicants will be required to complete the requirements below. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an online interview as the final component of the application process.

Written Proposal
Applicants should prepare and submit:
- a statement of 700-1000 words outlining the proposed research and a summary of relevant experience.
Portfolio
Applicants should prepare and submit a portfolio of video material that displays the following:
- Selected video examples of your practice as a dancer, choreographer, or performer.
Please edit all segments into a single clip of under 10 minutes in length, and insert titles indicating the title of work, length of performance in minutes, name of choreographer, names of performers and any further information (such as venue or presenter).
For video files that exceed 250MB, you can upload them to a video platform such as YouTube or Vimeo and submit the URL link. Please do not password-protect your video/s.
How will I be assessed?
Your written proposal will be assessed against the following criteria by the selection panel:
- scope and viability of the project
- relevance and currency of the topic
- availability of resources and supervision
Your portfolio will be assessed against the following criteria by the selection panel:
- proficiency in applicants' chosen dance style
- quality and suitability of dance material in relation to the proposed research project (the material should show, convey, or lead to your research idea)
- range of experience in dance and performance as demonstrated in supplied video examples.
In the interview, shortlisted applicants will be assessed against the following criteria by the selection panel:
- capacity to communicate research intention
- communication skills in discussing the context of creative work and individual experience
- ability to engage in open discussion on proposed project and broader dance-related issues
Please note that all applicants will be ranked based on the above criteria, up to the capacity of places within the course.
