Planning your arrival
Things you need to do before you leave, from confirming your visa to finding accommodation, packing and booking an airport pick up.
Exchange and Study Abroad Welcome Day is held on the Friday of the first week of orientation.
Due to COVID restrictions the next Welcome Day is to be confirmed. More information will be provided in your offer letter.
Before the semester starts, you'll need to attend the compulsory Exchange and Study Abroad Welcome Day at our Parkville campus.
This is a compulsory requirement for all Exchange and Study Abroad students and you’ll get a lot out of the day including critical information for your studies and also how to make the most of your time in the city of Melbourne.
NOTE - It is not intended for full-degree international, or research students.
At registration you will need to present your passport and collect your official welcome letter. The schedule of the day and where to register will be provided to you via email prior to your arrival.
Bring your passport and wi-fi enabled device if you have one (complete your administrative enrolment to connect to the uni wifi).
At registration, you’ll be provided your schedule for the day. This includes which Welcome Day location you have been allocated to.
You’ll be welcomed by our Global Leadership and Employability team with a lunchtime BBQ for all students.
You'll get to meet our support team, other exchange & study abroad students, and Uni Melb students who have returned from a semester overseas and ready to share their campus with you.
A campus tour will be held in groups of 15-20 for interested students.
After the BBQ, there are optional information sessions you can attend.
These will go over all the important information you'll need to know about studying at Melbourne, including:
Orientation is separate to our Welcome Day event.
At your course orientation, you'll finalise your timetable, collect your student card, and be able participate in a range of academic and social activities.

Also visit the Orientation website.
If you're going to arrive late and can't attend our Welcome Day or orientation, you need to request approval by the study abroad and exchange team.
You can request a late arrival here
In your email, advise us of your intended arrival date in Melbourne and the reasons for your late arrival. You may be asked to provide supporting documentation.
Late arrivals are only approved if you can demonstrate extenuating circumstances, such as a delay in getting a student visa or for medical reasons.
If you're unexpectedly running late for our Welcome Day, contact our team and we can assist you.
If you can't arrive before semester starts, you may be asked to defer your study to the following semester. If your late arrival is approved, our office will make arrangements with you to meet with our team to advise on next steps for completing your enrolment.
