Accept your offer, receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), and prepare for your visa and enrolment at the University of Melbourne.

Offer turnaround times

If your application is complete, the assessment can take up to 2 months, though this may vary depending on your course or faculty requirements.

During this time, you may be asked to provide additional information. It’s important to check your email regularly and respond promptly to avoid delays.

Receive your offer

If your application is successful, you’ll receive an offer email outlining your next steps. If your offer is conditional, you’ll need to meet the conditions listed before you can accept.

Your offer will include all the relevant information, including how to accept your place, enrol in subjects and prepare for your arrival.

If your application is unsuccessful, you’ll receive an email about the outcome.

What to do after accepting your offer

Your electronic CoE will be sent to the email address listed in your application after your acceptance has been processed.

You will need your CoE to apply for your student visa.

If you plan to study in Australia, you need a visa that allows you to undertake study.

Once you’ve accepted your offer, arranged OSHC and received your CoE, you can apply for your visa for study in Australia through the Department of Home Affairs.

Visa processing times can vary, so it’s important to apply as early as possible.

You may also need to complete health and character checks as part of your application.

If the Department of Home Affairs requests additional documentation from you during the visa application process, it’s important to provide this as soon as possible to avoid your application being rejected.

If you hold a student visa, you must enrol in a full-time study load in a CRICOS-registered course.

For exchange and study abroad students, this means enrolling in at least 37.5 credit points per semester (three subjects).

It’s your responsibility to understand and comply with all visa conditions.

Once you’ve received your CoE, you can activate your student account and complete your enrolment. This will give you access to your University of Melbourne email and allow you to enrol in subjects.

As well as applying for your visa and planning your subjects, this may also include:

  • Finalising accommodation
  • Booking travel and arrival services
  • Attending orientation.

Are you under 18?

If you’ll be under 18 years of age when you arrive in Australia, you’ll need to arrange appropriate accommodation, support and welfare arrangements.

These arrangements must be approved before your arrival.

A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is an official document issued after you accept your offer. You’ll need this document to apply for your student visa.

You can apply once you’ve accepted your offer, arranged OSHC and received your CoE. Apply as early as possible to allow for processing time.

OSHC is usually required before you can apply for a student visa and must cover the full duration of your stay. Students from Norway, Belgium and Sweden generally do not require OSHC.

Students must enrol in a full-time study load, which is at least 37.5 credit points per semester – usually this means a minimum of three subjects.
