Year 11/12 Special Consideration

If you are currently in Year 12 and have experienced circumstances during Year 11 and/or 12 (only) that have had an adverse impact on your academic performance, you may be eligible for Year 11/12 Special Consideration when applying for an undergraduate course at the University of Melbourne.

For current Year 12 applicants, impacts of COVID-19 disruptions to teaching and learning during 2021/2022 are expected to be considered through Year 11/12 Special Consideration.

To apply for Year 11/12 Special Consideration, simply follow the four step process to apply for Access Melbourne (using SEAS Category 3: Disability or medical condition, and/or Category 4: Difficult circumstances) and indicate that the adverse circumstances you have experienced have only occurred during your final two years of secondary school.

You will also need to provide an impact statement to support your application for special consideration. This impact statement should outline all compensation that you have already received from your secondary school to help you overcome your circumstances.

Study scores awarded on completion of the VCE represent the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s (VCAA) best available measure of the learning you achieved in each subject. Adjustments to your ranking will therefore only be made where there is evidence that your circumstances have resulted in this learning not being a reliable guide to your potential for success in future studies.

Year 11/12 Special Consideration applications will be considered individually, but in almost all cases the expectation is that adjustments to rankings will be minor when compared to Access Melbourne. Eligibility for Year 11/12 Special Consideration alone will not make you eligible for an Access Melbourne guarantee or a Melbourne Access Scholarship.
