The University of Melbourne adopts a skills, knowledge and capabilities approach to embedding China-capability, and more broadly Asia-capability, through the University of Melbourne’s academic and professional development programs.
The University of Melbourne offers a multitude of Chinese language and Asia capability programs including a range of mobility and exchange opportunities to provide vital in-country experiences to students.
The majority of the University’s China-related programs are housed within the Faculty of Arts, including the Asia Institute, which has been delivering China language and capability programs since 2006, while the Asian Law Centre has been active since 1985. The Mandarin program has the largest intake within undergraduate languages at the University and is offered by the Asia Institute within the Faculty of Arts. The Asia Institute is now expanding its offer to include the interdisciplinary Masters of Contemporary Chinese Studies, the only program of its kind in Australia.
The University fosters knowledge and cultural exchange through a range of China-capability programs from within the Faculty of Arts and its Asia Institute, the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies, Asian Law Centre, Centre for Asian Business and Economics, Shanghai-Melbourne Research Training Group, and the Asialink group.
