How to apply for scholarships

Many scholarships are awarded for academic achievement, but did you know scholarships are also assessed based on study area, level of study and personal circumstances?

  1. Find the right fit for you. Our scholarships website allows you to filter by level of study and study area.
  2. For scholarships that require an application, always submit your application early.
  3. Carefully read the eligibility criteria to make sure the scholarship is aligned with your goals and personal circumstances. Each scholarship has different eligibility criteria.
  4. Check the application requirements. You will be automatically considered for some scholarships when applying for your course, while for others you need to submit an application. Having a strong resume, personal statement and highlighting your achievements outside of study is a great start.

Scholarships in Australia for international students

There are many scholarships open to international students at the University. Filter by international student and graduate coursework to start your search on the scholarships website.

For Leah, Master of Biotechnology student, University of Melbourne scholarships helped her fund living expenses after making the move from India to Australia for study.

“I was very happy to have received the scholarships from the University of Melbourne. I chose to put one of my scholarships towards the tuition fees and I asked the university to put the remaining money from the second scholarship to my account so I could use it for living expenses in Melbourne.”

Leah’s scholarships were automatically considered when she applied for her course, meaning she did not need to submit a separate scholarship application. But she says there are still things you can do to put yourself in the best position to receive a scholarship.

For example, for scholarships that require a written application, you can include your academic achievements as well as any volunteer and community activities you take part in.

My advice to anybody who's looking to get a scholarship at the University of Melbourne, it will just be to keep up your grades and maybe participate in a lot of different activities because they do take that into consideration when they look for who to award a scholarship.
