Frequently asked questions

The Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program was named in honour of the eminent scholar and leading educationalist, Emeritus Professor Kwong Lee Dow – a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Melbourne. You can learn more about our program’s mentor here.

To be eligible for the relocation allowance a Young Scholar’s home address must be interstate or within one of the Victorian Government's designated rural councils at the time of applying for and enrolling into a University of Melbourne undergraduate course. For full information, conditions and to check if your home postcode is eligible for this allowance benefit, see the conditions for Kwong Lee Dow participants.

Note: Young Scholars who are eligible to receive the relocation allowance will receive the funds in the weeks immediately after the HECS census date in the first semester after they commence at Melbourne.

The under-represented schools list is published in July/August each year for undergraduate entry the following year. It is subject to change each year based on enrolment data from the earlier cohorts and will be available on the under-represented schools page.

Young Scholars will receive their library cards in the mail a few weeks after being accepted into the program.

If you lose your library card, you must notify the Young Scholars Program Coordinator via young-scholars@unimelb.edu.au immediately to organise a replacement. Please remember, you'll be liable for any loss or damage to books borrowed against your card so reporting a lost card as soon as possible is essential.

If you lose your library card please notify the Young Scholars Coordinator via young-scholars@unimelb.edu.au to discuss the conditions for arranging a replacement card.

It is important that the University has your correct contact details. If any of your personal details change, for example you move schools or change your residential or email address, you are required to notify the Young Scholars Program Coordinator as soon as possible via email at: young-scholars@unimelb.edu.au

If at any time you need additional support or assistance, please contact the Young Scholars Program Coordinator via young-scholars@unimelb.edu.au.

Our primary means of communication with you will be via email. Posts and updates in the Discord server will be used to reinforce the messages we send direct to your inbox.

Event recordings and any information presented at KLD activities will be made available via this portal.

While joining the Discord server is a great way to network with other Young Scholars and pick up lots of interesting information about the University and upcoming events, you're not obligated to join.  If you do opt to join you must be willing to create your own account. To ensure the safety and comfort of all members, students must adhere to the server rules of engagement at all times. To join the Discord server, go to the portal home page and navigate to your KLD class year.

The resources section in the Young Scholars portal offers access to past event recordings including VCE Revision Lectures, as well as to hand-outs and any other important information.  Please visit the resources section to check out what’s on offer.

While we endeavour to capture the formal proceedings from any event presentation, it’s not always practical to record all in-person experiences and interactions offered to Young Scholars (i.e. campus tours). If you register for an event and can’t make it we will email any recordings to you following the session. You can also access past handouts, lecture notes and videos via the Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars portal.
