Hear from Health Leadership alumni
Many graduates of the Specialist Certificate in Clinical Leadership have gone on to achieve remarkable professional milestones and inspired many to share their enriching and transformative student experiences. Below is a quote from Emma King, an Education Fellow and Nurse practitioner at The Royal Children's Hospital, and a story from Andy Lumley, a Specialist in Anaesthesia and Retrieval Medicine.
Quote from Emma
"I am a nurse practitioner and specialise in paediatric dermatology. I chose the program because I wanted to improve my leadership skills as a clinician with the aim to be a better leader within my department, the Royal Children’s Hospital and the wider nursing professional groups. A highlight of the program was that I was able to engage and meet other clinicians and really learn from them too. The course has made me think of ways I can lead better and inspire others to do so too. I now take more time to reflect on my actions and inspirations to determine how I could improve. It gave me courage to seek a job opportunity that wasn’t in my current speciality of 24 years, that I am thoroughly enjoying, learning new skills and continue to inspire, innovate and lead. I would have no hesitation in recommending the course. It has improved my leadership skills, made me a better person and encouraged me to make positive change in the healthcare setting."

Profile
Andy Lumley
I am a Specialist in Anaesthesia and Retrieval Medicine. The highlight of the program was the face-to-face days. It was a great opportunity to mix with other interested and likeminded colleagues, swap ideas and learn from their experiences. Since completing the course I’ve continued to pursue opportunities in clinical leadership including chairing my hospital’s clinical review committee, sitting on a statewide retrieval education committee and running the education program for my retrieval service. I’d be happy to recommend the course to others as an opportunity to meet other likeminded colleagues and learn from some very experienced faculty.
