Admission criteria

To be considered for entry into this course, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a directly related discipline, from an approved university, with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65% (or equivalent), AND
  • Successful completion of at least one tertiary-level mathematics subject, which includes elements of multivariable calculus and linear algebra, with a score of at least 65%.

You may be required to sit a test to elucidate any of the above.

Disciplines directly related to this course include statistics, mathematics, biomedicine, psychology, science, pharmacy, health sciences and economics.

Examples of University of Melbourne subjects that meet the subject prerequisite with a mark of 65% or greater include:

  • MAST10005 Calculus 1;
  • MAST10006 Calculus 2;
  • MAST10021 Calculus 2 Advanced;
  • MAST10007 Linear Algebra;
  • MAST10022 Linear Algebra Advanced;
  • MAST10008 Accelerated Maths 1;
  • MAST10009 Accelerated Maths 2; or
  • MAST10024 Mathematics & Statistics for Biomedicine

Prior studies may be credited towards your degree and potentially reduce the duration of your course. This is known as Advanced Standing (also known as credit or recognition of prior learning).

Applicants may, on occasion, be considered for Advanced Standing. If applicable, this will automatically be assessed at the time of application and no separate Advanced Standing application needs to be submitted.
