Overview
Course Structure
This is a 200 credit point program.
24 months full-time or 48 months part-time (Requires Course Coordinator approval)
Our course has been designed for full-time study, with content connected across the four subjects of each semester. If necessary, we encourage you to clearly state your reasons for needing to study part-time in your application and we will discuss this further with you if your application is successful
*Please note there is a set approved pathway for the part-time study option.
Students can specialise in either Drama Therapy or Dance Movement Therapy. These are two distinct disciplines with specific therapeutic methods. The theoretical, research and professional practice subjects are taught across the disciplines which provides an opportunity for interdisciplinary learning and mutual enrichment. Methods subjects are separated into specialisations.
Blended Learning
The course has been set up as blended learning in order to make it available to people across Australia. Students can live anywhere in Australia while undertaking most of the program and come to Melbourne for intensive study once per semester. We anticipate that face to face workshops will be held over one week, early in each semester. These will most likely be scheduled in late February and late July just before the start of each semester. International students will need to be based in Melbourne to meet visa requirements regarding on-campus contact.
Professional Practice Placements
Students are required to complete four placements over the course of their study. These are usually organised and allocated by the Placement Coordinator. This involves 40 days in an agency per year, over two years, to enable students to apply for registration with appropriate professional associations.
In Australia, this is the DTAA (Dance Movement Therapy Association of Australasia) and ANZACATA (Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association). Our course has been approved by ANZACATA to date.
