Admission criteria

To be considered for entry into this course, you must have:

  • An undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, OR
  • At least six years of documented relevant professional work experience, AND
  • An artistic background as demonstrated by submission of an Artistic Experience Portfolio showing significant interest in the relevant art form with documented artistic engagement.

You must also submit:

  • A written proposal.
  • A curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Two referees

Shortlisted applicants will also be required to attend an interview.

Work history relevant to this course may include roles in industries such as performing arts, community arts practice, or education.

English language requirements

All applicants to the University of Melbourne must satisfy the English language requirements. This may be achieved in a number of ways, including recognised previous study taught and assessed entirely in English or an approved English language test. About selection

When assessing applications, the Selection Committee will consider your previous studies and academic performance.

The Selection Committee may request additional information to clarify any aspect of an application, according to the University’s Academic Board rules regarding selection instruments.

Meeting the published entry requirements for this course does not guarantee selection.

As part of the Creative Application (a.k.a. Supplementary Application), the Selection Committee will also consider your written proposal, Artistic Experience Portfolio, and if relevant to your application, your professional history.

Written proposal

You must prepare and submit a written proposal comprising:

  • an existing academic essay, OR
  • 1000 words offering an introduction to the professional practice of dance movement therapy/drama therapy.

Both should include at least five academic sources, and use of an appropriate referencing style.

Portfolio

You must also prepare and submit a portfolio comprising:

  • a 3-minute improvisation to camera (dance or drama), AND
  • a showreel video of previous performance work (up to 10 minutes), AND
  • a two-page curriculum vitae, AND
  • two professional references.

If your application is shortlisted, you will also be invited to and assessed on your performance in an interview.

Additional information

Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM)

We encourage domestic students to explore eligibility for Graduate Access Melbourne (GAM). GAM offers an opportunity for admission to this course even if your tertiary marks are below the standard entry requirements.
