Admission criteria

In order to be considered for entry into this course, you must have:

  • A bachelor honours degree or equivalent in education or
  • A bachelor degree or equivalent in education or a related discipline* and at least two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant work experience^ or
  • A bachelor degree or equivalent in any discipline, and at least 50 credit points, or equivalent, of graduate study in education or
  • A masters degree or equivalent in any discipline and at least two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) relevant work experience.^

* Related discipline may include: teaching (primary, secondary, or early childhood), special education, educational psychology, STEM education, curriculum and pedagogy TESOL/language and literacy, educational leadership or policy, social work (with an education or youth focus), youth work or community education, human development or child development, sociology or anthropology of education, Indigenous education, learning design/educational technology.

^ Relevant work experience may include, but is not limited to, the following: school settings (primary, secondary, vocational), early childhood settings, special education, TAFE, higher education. learning designers, workplace educators, community-based educators, government education departments, education policy, education technology experience. Applicants are to submit a copy of their CV/resume.

Note:

Applicants who hold an alternative combination of study and relevant work experience not listed may be assessed for 100 points of advanced standing on a case-by-case basis. The Selection Committee will assess the depth and relevance of the professional experience and/or scope and level of prior study, and may request additional supporting evidence. This provision is at the discretion of the Selection Committee and does not replace the published minimum academic requirements.

Credit is not normally granted for studies completed more than ten years prior to the course commencement. You may be eligible for advanced standing if your previous studies are more than ten years prior to the course commencement on the basis of substantial, relevant and documented professional work experience, where recent prior learning can be demonstrated. English language requirements

All applicants to the University of Melbourne must satisfy the English language requirements. Prior studies may be credited towards your degree and potentially reduce the duration of your course. This is known as Advanced Standing (also known as credit or recognition of prior learning).

For entry into this course, applicants will be automatically assessed for 100 credit points of advanced standing based on their previous qualifications and relevant work experience as outlined in the entry requirements.
