Student experience

Overview

The Master of Indigenous Business Leadership has three compulsory foundation subjects, including Indigenous Business Ecosystems, Indigenous Philosophy of Business and Indigenous Business Leadership. Students who have completed these subjects as part of the Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Business Leadership will not need to re-enrol in these subjects. All students will complete four compulsory subjects, including Indigenous Markets and Marketing, Indigenous Commercialisation, Indigenous Business Practicum and Indigenising Human Resource Management.

Indigenous Commercialisation explores the commercialisation of Indigenous business ventures, focusing on the tensions between economic development and cultural preservation, while providing a comprehensive framework for creating sustainable enterprises. Students will engage in market validation, business model design, and pitching, all while integrating Indigenous values and learning from successful examples of culturally aligned entrepreneurship

Indigenous Business Practicum offers a strategic work placement within the Indigenous business sector, allowing students to apply their learnings practically in a workplace setting. It gives students the opportunity to gain practical experience and strengthen their leadership skills in an Indigenous business.

Indigenous Markets and Marketing explores mainstream marketing theory while addressing the unique challenges and strengths of Indigenous businesses, helping students develop targeted marketing solutions for Indigenous markets and consumers across urban, regional, and remote areas.

Indigenising Human Resource Management explores Indigenous ways of managing human resources, starting from cultural foundations to reshape conventional HR practices, governance structures, and organizational dynamics. It emphasises the integration of Indigenous perspectives, including Dreaming stories and ontologies, to foster inclusivity and environmental sustainability while challenging colonial assumptions in HR. Drawing from Native and Indigenous philosophies, students learn to apply decolonising approaches to create workplaces that align with cultural values and promote cultural responsiveness.
