Overview
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is an internationally recognised research masters degree of the University.
The degree of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) signifies that the holder has undertaken a substantial piece of original research, which has been conducted and reported by the holder under proper academic supervision and in a research environment for a prescribed period. It is designed for students to develop advanced skills in carrying out independent and sustained research. The thesis should demonstrate a critical application of specialist knowledge and make an independent contribution to existing scholarship in the area of research. It is written succinctly, in English, unless approval has been given for the thesis to be written in a language other than English .
The MPhil:
- Is undertaken for up to 1.5-2 years (full-time equivalent) or up to 4 years (part-time)
- Preparation of a thesis of 40,000–50,000 words, under supervision, on a topic approved by Melbourne Law School.
- Pathway to the PhD.
Graduate Researchers also participate in Melbourne Law School's Research Support Program in the first full research year.
