For entry into the specialisation, all applicants must meet the standard eligibility for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Degree with Honours), in addition to the requirements below.

Please note, the Design and Production specialisation will not be offering a 2027 intake.

Proposal and Portfolio

Entry to the Design and Production specialisation is based on a written proposal, folio, and an interview for shortlisted applicants only. Applicants will be required to complete the requirements below. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an online interview as the final component of the application process.

Written Proposal

Applicants should prepare and submit:

  • a statement of 700-1000 words outlining the proposed research and a summary of relevant experience.
Folio

Applicants should prepare and submit:

  • samples of recent creative work that supports their application and proposal, including designs, photos, drawings, images, illustrations, artwork etc. and/or video* (15 mins max) of excerpts.

How will I be assessed?

The written proposal will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • relevance and currency of the topic
  • availability of relevant resources
  • availability of relevant supervision

The folio will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • demonstrated originality in design and/or production; and
  • requisite level of skill; and
  • track record and experience in fields of design and/or production.

The interview will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • ability to convey and explain proposal
  • ability to engage in discussion of ideas in relation to design and/or production
  • clear commitment to undertaking the research and practice work

Please note that all applicants will be ranked based on the above criteria, up to the capacity of places within the course.

Interview

Shortlisted applicants are required to attend an interview as the final component of the application process. During the interview, panel members will assess your suitability for Honours, and you will be asked to discuss your proposal in further detail. The interview will run for approximately 30 minutes and will be conducted online via Zoom Web Conferencing.

Shortlisted applicants should prepare to discuss:
  • Proposal in further detail;
  • interests, expectations, and motivations for undertaking the course; and
  • ability to support full-time study commitment.
