honours specialisation

Design and Production

Overview

Through the Design and Production specialisation, you will undertake independent research and the production of a major creative project. You will develop your aptitude for continued self-directed learning, critical analysis of design practices and discourse, and develop your capacity to be a professional practitioner within the discipline of design and/or technical management in the creative sector. Students also have the opportunity to work on projects in practicelab, the student-led design studio that undertakes projects for clients in the University and the community.

You'll build specialist expertise in design for stage and screen, graphic design, or stage management. We welcome projects investigating all forms of design and production practice, and you can also work with other disciplines in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music – such as working on live, large-scale performances with our Music Theatre, Theatre, Acting and Dance students; or on film projects with our Film and Television students.

Production is also available in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production)

Who is this course for?

The course provides an opportunity for graduates from the VCA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts (Production), production graduates of other institutions, and graduates from related disciplines such as graphic design and performance design to develop their potential for practice-led research and deepen their knowledge and professional practice through an advanced and specialised fourth year of study.
