Mathematics and Statistics

    Major overview

Every scientist, engineer, medical specialist and economist uses maths and/or statistics. Maths and stats are powerful tools for understanding the physical world, as well as human endeavour and behaviour in fields like psychology, linguistics and the social sciences.

By majoring in mathematics you’ll be able to pick an equation apart, understand its component parts and, maybe, put it back together with improvements.

This major gives you deep knowledge in one of four specialisations: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research/Discrete Mathematics and Statistics and Stochastic Processes.
