Major overview

Overview

The Property major teaches students to read a development from both sides: the design and construction that shape a project, and the economics, finance and law that determine whether it happens. You learn how to value a property, how to assess a site, how markets move with population and demographics, and how planning and legal frameworks set the limits everyone works within.

Students will develop knowledge and research the influences of property demand and supply, including macro and microeconomics, urban economics, market research, demographics, and social influences.

In your final semester, you will consolidate your understanding of property by undertaking the capstone subject, Design and Property Studio. In the Property capstone, students work on real-world projects in a simulated workplace setting, guided by highly experienced academics and practitioners.

Careers and Further Study

Graduates from the Property major in the Bachelor of Design can work in the property industry, and are ideally prepared to continue with further studies in the accredited Master of Property.
