This micro-credential is ideal for a range of professionals employed in the visual arts, including producers, directors, cinematographers, editors, game developers, VFX designers/artists, digital imaging technicians (DIT), camera assistants, lighting directors, set designers, and production assistants.

Secondary teachers (multimedia, design and technologies, media arts); or associate lecturers, lecturers, senior lecturers, associate Professors, or Professors teaching film, multimedia, design technologies, or media arts subjects may also benefit from this course.

Please note, to enrol in this micro-credential you must have successfully completed the course Introduction to Virtual Production. It is also recommended that learners have demonstrated screen-industry experience in a creative or technical field OR a bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Learning is equivalent to Level 8 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

There is a growing expectation for film and screen professionals across all design and production areas to possess practical skills relating to virtual production (VP).

This micro-credential will empower you with the detailed knowledge, principles, and hands-on experience needed to operate LED volumes in virtual production studios.

By the end of this course, you'll have a deeper understanding of how LED volumes work.

You'll be able to:

• Demonstrate the technical skills necessary to operate an LED Volume in the roles of the technical director and a range of other nominated technical staff
• Synthesise the elements of LED volume workflow to determine how to solve creative and technical problems.

Operating the LED Volume runs over five days and includes studio experience via three days of live on-site engagement at the University of Melbourne's  Southbank Campus.

Your total time commitment will be approximately 42 hours and includes:

• Studio experience and live on-site engagement
• Use of real-time engine software
• Self-directed and guided learning
• Assessment activities.

Assessment:

• Portfolio presentation: Collaborate in teams to devise, experiment, and presented solutions to four VP technical challenges (50%)
• Industry workflow presentation: Create a short visual production (max 2 mins) and reflect on the workflow processes involved (50%).

Upon completion of this course, you will receive the Operating the LED Volume Melbourne MicroCert – The University of Melbourne’s unique micro-credential digital certificate. This certificate demonstrates that you have acquired the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined in the course’s learning outcomes. The certificate may also include artefacts such as videos and written materials related to both experimental and work-integrated learning, as well as relevant assessments applicable to your professional life. You can add your Melbourne MicroCert to your social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, and share it with others. Please see example certificate.

Operating the LED Volume is the second course in the Virtual Production Workflow series.  These courses are designed to be completed sequentially. To enrol, you must have successfully completed Introduction to Virtual Production.
