This short course is delivered by practising experts from the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Engineering and Technology. You'll gain cutting edge skills directly applicable to the structural design of prefab and modular buildings. This industry-aligned course includes a unique practical component that will enhance your understanding of prefabricated and modular building construction.

Learning is mapped to Australian Standards and other regulatory requirements. It is suitable for overseas-trained professionals who are seeking a strong understanding of the Australian engineering sector.

• Structural design of prefabricated and modular buildings: Learn key concepts relevant to the modularisation, structural design, and offsite manufacturing of building structures
• Transportation, lifting and handling of modular buildings: Assess best practice techniques and current guidelines to design prefab and modular units for various stages of their construction until final installation
• Building facade technology and structural design consideration:  Learn best practice approaches relevant to structural design and the performance requirements of facades, including prefabrication technologies for fully offsite manufactured facades
• Structural design workshop: Use the latest methods and technologies taught during the course to design prefabricated and modular buildings following a practical case study.

Each session in this short course will develop your knowledge and skills in prefabricated and modular construction.

Upon completion, you will be able to:

• Perform structural analysis and structural design of prefabricated and modular buildings constructed from different materials using cutting-edge software
• Evaluate the loads and support conditions during the transportation, lifting, and construction process to ensure a safe and efficient build
• Confidently apply building facade technologies in structural design and on prefabricated building systems.

You will be taught by skilled academics from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne.  Also contributing to this course is AECOM Associate Director Joyce Ferng, a chartered structural engineer with more than 20 years of experience.

This course runs over six weeks, with one two-hour session per week. This amounts to 12 hours of learning. Please note, there is no formal assessment in this course.
