International application fee

Find out if you need to pay the international application fee, whether you’re eligible for an exemption, and how to make your payment.

All new direct international applicants pay a non-refundable fee of AUD$154 for each application. You'll be prompted to pay the fee at the end of the online application process. There is no application fee for domestic applicants.

Application fee exemptions

You‘re eligible for a fee exemption if any of the below apply to you. If you’re asked to pay an application fee during the online application process and you believe that's an error, contact Stop 1 on 13 MELB (13 6352).

A current University of Melbourne student On the application page, select 'Apply as a current or previous student’ and log in. You will not be prompted to pay the application fee.

Applying for a graduate research course

(Note: Graduate coursework applicants are not exempt.)

You will not be prompted to pay the application fee.
An applicant who is sponsored (fully funded) by a government or private company
  1. Complete the ‘Register’ section of your online application to obtain a username/application ID.
  2. Complete the fee waiver form and attach to your application a copy of your official letter confirming your government or employer sponsorship.
  3. The University will respond via email with the outcome of your request.
  4. You can then proceed with your application.
An applicant who has been given a signed form by a University staff member at an exhibition or interview program
  1. Complete the ‘Register’ section of your application to obtain a username/application ID.
  2. Upload and submit your signed fee waiver form.
  3. The University will respond via email with the outcome of your request.
  4. You can then proceed with your application.
An exchange or study abroad applicant

Students who would like to attend the University of Melbourne on an exchange and study abroad program follow a different application process and do not have to pay the application fee.

If you’ve been asked to pay an application fee, it means you have incorrectly selected a full degree program. Cancel that application and start again.

An applicant who has a study arrangement between the University and their partner institution Your university or department may have a partnership study option with the University of Melbourne. If you’ve been accepted for an institutional partnership study arrangement, contact Stop 1 on 13 MELB (13 6352).
A student nominated by their home institution to apply for a University of Melbourne program under an approved institutional agreement
  1. Complete the ‘Register’ section of your application to obtain a username/application ID.
  2. Complete the fee waiver form and attach to your application a copy of your nomination letter from your home institution stating that you meet the eligibility requirements under the institutional agreement. Your request will not be approved without this nomination letter.
  3. The University will respond via email with the outcome of your request.
  4. You can then proceed with your application.
An applicant who is seeking asylum in Australia
  1. Complete the ‘Register’ section of your application to obtain a username/application ID.
  2. Complete the fee waiver form and attach a copy of your current visa information to your application. To be eligible for an application fee waiver, you must:
    1. Have applied for or hold a temporary Australian humanitarian visa or have applied for a permanent Australian humanitarian visa; and
    2. Satisfy the course prerequisites and have achieved at least the minimum entry score for your preferred University of Melbourne course.
  3. The University will respond via email with the outcome of your request.
  4. You can then proceed with your application.
